Stadtmuseum Tübingen
Stadtmuseum Tübingen occupies the historic Kornhaus in Tübingen, Germany, where thick walls and timber frames surround six centuries of urban life. Once a grain store, the building now holds city views, artworks, and objects from local history.
The collection began in the 1890s, when mayor Julius Gös gathered images and artworks to preserve Tübingen’s changing appearance. It later moved through city hall and a castle wing before Johannes Manderscheid transformed the Kornhaus into a museum. Several floors connect everyday city life with changing exhibitions, educational workshops, and a permanent presentation of Lotte Reiniger’s silhouette art. Her film The Adventures of Prince Achmed was made between 1923 and 1926.
Careful provenance research follows each object’s journey, including possible losses during the Nazi era and restitutions to descendants. At the entrance, one special object appears each month, while wheelchair accessibility helps more visitors explore the collection.
