Heilig Kreuz
Heilig Kreuz Church stands in the Burg district of Thannhausen, Germany, as an architectural landmark with Romanesque beginnings. The building brings several centuries of church architecture together. Its architectural history reaches from the Romanesque style to a later Baroque transformation.
Construction began in the twelfth century, and a major rebuilding followed in the fifteenth. Between 1620 and 1630, the church underwent complete reconstruction. The seventeenth-century Baroque transformation added frescoes by Johann Baptist Enderle to the interior.
Michael Hölzle created the altar and pulpit, both examples of Baroque craftsmanship. Extensive renovation work has helped preserve the church’s historic appearance. A special service marked the reopening after those works, connecting conservation with living worship.
