Wernhaldenpark

Wernhaldenpark occupies a steep hillside below Neue Weinsteige in southern Stuttgart, close to the city centre. Steep serpentine paths climb through the park. Seating areas accompany the routes, while higher ground opens views across the Stuttgart basin. Californian redwoods stand throughout the upper park. Their history reaches back to sequoia seeds bought by King Wilhelm I of Württemberg. Two small streams cross the Wernhaldenpark nature reserve. Wooden bridges and rocks provide crossings along the paths through trees and vegetation. Squirrels and birds live among its varied trees. A loop trail combines lush scenery, a fountain, a viewpoint, and a descent through dense forest. The route offers a moderate hiking challenge. Old fortification remains and historical markers add traces of the area's past beside the natural setting. The Red Sock Trail and Santiago de Chile Square complement the park.
