Palais Debler

Palais Debler is a three-storey urban residence arranged across seven vertical sections, giving its façade a measured rhythm. Its regular form belongs clearly to the surrounding townscape.

The building takes its name from the Debler family, a patrician family associated with civic influence and substantial urban houses. Its urban address expressed the owners’ social standing. Its history also links Palais Debler with the families Schenk von Schenkenstein, Hack von Hoheneck, Woellwarth, and Laymingen. Several noble families shaped the house across its recorded history.

Unlike a castle, this palace served as a representative townhouse rather than a fortified residence on elevated ground. Its recorded principal role was a residential one. The three-storey height and seven-axis arrangement gave the building presence within the surrounding urban fabric. The building houses a tax office.

That change places patrician identity, aristocratic residence, and public administration within one enduring architectural setting. The palace still retains its name and form.
