Einsegnungshalle
Einsegnungshalle is a funeral hall within Hauptfriedhof, also called Südfriedhof, in Saarbrücken, Germany. The cemetery extends across around 61 hectares, making it the largest in southwestern Germany, with historical monuments, war memorial areas and varied burial grounds.
Construction began in 1914, initially serving as a burial ground for fallen soldiers before civilian burials joined the site in 1916. Plans for its full development led to the hall and a cremation facility being built between 1928 and 1930. Muslim, Yezidi and Bektashi sections reflect Saarbrücken’s different burial traditions, while a memorial garden and spaces for stillborn children add quieter places of remembrance.
An urn pyramid provides one of the cemetery’s most distinctive details, standing among the wider complex’s many forms of commemoration.
