Can Ribas de Pina
Can Ribas de Pina is a historic house in Palma, Mallorca, with roots reaching back to the seventeenth century. Miquel Ribas de Pina i Ferrà acquired it in 1718.
The building later changed through the addition of a columned porch, wooden eaves, and alterations to its Gothic façade. Its original Gothic windows were later bricked up during renovations. The entrance and mullioned windows still suggest the earlier arrangement of the façade.
The courtyard retains features associated with seventeenth-century Palma patios, despite its renovation. The patio brought light, air, and privacy into this historic home. Can Ribas de Pina stands behind the church of St Eulalia, within Palma’s historic centre.
The surrounding streets contain other old houses with Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements. Together, the porch, eaves, windows, and patio show how the residence changed while older details remained visible. The house connects a family residence with Palma’s architectural history. Its courtyard also reflects the role these spaces played in the life and design of old Palma homes.
