St.Johannes der Täufer

St. Johannes der Täufer is a Catholic parish church in Hohestadt, a district of Ochsenfurt, within the Diocese of Würzburg. The earliest recorded church building dates from 1355. The present church was built in 1672 and received a substantial redesign in 1771. The building forms a hall church with a recessed choir. A roof turret carries an onion-shaped dome, while a sundial and surviving cemetery wall add visible details. Bells hang in the roof turret. One bell dates to 1630, although it was recast in 1871. An image of Saint Valentin stands above the entrance. Inside, the altar painting presents John the Baptist, the church’s patron, linking the interior to its dedication. The churchyard wall still surrounds the historic church site. St. Johannes der Täufer served first as a branch of Acholshausen and became an independent parish after 1850. It belongs to the parish community of Tückelhausen. The local choir Schola Hohestadt, founded in 2000, provides music for services and special occasions. The church remains a centre of Catholic community life.
