Kapelle St. Maria

Kapelle St. Maria stands in Oberegg, a village within Wiesenbach in Bavaria’s Günzburg district. Oberegg lies on a ridge between the Schwarzbach and Günz valleys. The Catholic chapel presents a rectangular building with a three-sided end. Corner pilasters mark its elevations, while cornice articulation runs along the upper edge. Together, these features form a clear example of eighteenth-century religious architecture.

Built during the third quarter of the eighteenth century, the chapel preserves the style and structure of its period. Inside, period furnishings and decorations provide a direct visual connection with that era. Oberegg has maintained a historical connection with Roggenburg Monastery since 1447. That history places the building within the village’s longstanding Catholic traditions. Its three-sided end remains the detail that most clearly breaks the regular rectangular form.
