Teatro Elfo Puccini

Teatro Elfo Puccini offers a clear view of Milan’s contemporary theatre, from its origins as Teatro dell’Elfo to its home on Corso Buenos Aires. Actors founded the theatre in Milan in 1972. The founding group included Gabriele Salvatores and developed its work within the city’s alternative cultural spaces during the 1970s. Leoncavallo was among those early cultural settings. In 1992, Teatro Elfo joined Teatro Porta Romana to create Teatridithalia, a private permanent theatre cooperative. Teatridithalia shaped the theatre’s lasting identity. In 2010, the theatre moved to the renovated Teatro Puccini on Corso Buenos Aires. This new setting created Elfo Puccini, Teatro d’arte contemporanea, with modern auditoriums named Shakespeare, Fassbinder, and Bausch. Modern technology supports varied performances across these named spaces. Its seasons engage contemporary themes and languages, building a focused programme around new theatrical approaches and sustained artistic work. The programme brings new writing together with contemporary interpretations of classic plays. The theatre also gives emerging artists and underrepresented voices room for meaningful narratives in Milan’s cultural landscape.
