Teatro degli Arcimboldi
Teatro degli Arcimboldi stands in Milan’s Bicocca district, about seven kilometres from the city centre. The theatre occupies a former Pirelli tyre factory.
Vittorio Gregotti designed the building with Mario Botta and Elisabetta Fabbri. Construction took twenty-seven months. The venue opened in January 2002 with Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata. It first served performances during La Scala’s renovation.
Inside, a fan-shaped auditorium spreads across two levels and accommodates 2,375 seats. The layout combines modern design with direct views across the performance space. After La Scala reopened in 2004, the theatre continued independently. Opera, ballet, concerts and international events have filled its programme. Wheelchair accessibility adds practical ease to this substantial Milan cultural venue.
