MEWO Kunsthalle

MEWO Kunsthalle in Memmingen presents contemporary art alongside works from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Its building is a protected historic monument.

The late-classical former royal post office has also served as a courthouse and temporary railway station. Brick and stone define the building’s facade.

Four wings surround a covered atrium, while the former parcel hall occupies the ground floor. Several upstairs rooms retain their original size and decoration.

The Graphic Cabinet expands its exhibition space through a drawer system on the upper floor. The collection includes paintings and graphic works by Josef Madlener.

Works by Max Unold, Johann Gottlieb Prestel and Wolfgang Niesner extend the artistic range. The graphic collection covers the eighteenth through twentieth centuries.

Exhibitions have explored photography, typography, drawing, sculpture and distinctive themes from the hall’s programme. These subjects give the rooms varied artistic focus.

MEWO Kunsthalle combines historic architecture with collections and exhibitions connected to Memmingen’s cultural life. The former post office remains central to the experience.
