Panteón R. Solano de Quesada
Panteón R. Solano de Quesada is a mausoleum within Cementerio de San Miguel in Málaga. It stands inside Málaga’s Cementerio de San Miguel. The site connects a Solano family burial place with Málaga’s architectural and historical record.
Rafael Solano de Quesada commissioned it after acquiring the land in 1865. He was born in Málaga during the year 1811. Construction began shortly afterwards, while Rafael later spent much of his life in India. He died in India during the year 1867. He left it to his cousin Diego Solano Salcedo, and four of Diego’s thirteen children later divided the inheritance. Diego Solano Salcedo was a prominent figure in Málaga. The four were Mercedes, Matilde, Margarita, and Ernesto Solano Rittwagen.
Their wider family held estates in Olías, known for wine production, and property on Málaga’s Plaza de la Merced. Miguel Muro Moreu, a Spanish army general, also lies there through marriage into the Solano family. In 2007, descendant Sofía de León Sotelo Gantes led restoration work there.
