The Travellers Club

The Travellers Club stands on Pall Mall in London, among the grand private clubs that line this historic street. Its elegant architecture, dining rooms, bars and quiet interiors create a setting shaped by long-standing social traditions. The building also contains bedrooms for members, giving the club a residential character alongside its dining and conversational spaces.

Founded in 1819, the club originally welcomed men who had travelled at least 500 miles from London. Diplomats, foreign visitors and internationally experienced members helped shape its connection with travel and world affairs. A men-only membership policy remains central to its traditional character, while women may enter most areas as guests. Members can also use reciprocal clubs abroad, extending the club’s reach beyond Britain.

The library provides the clearest expression of its travelling spirit, with books and resources connected to exploration and international interests. Since the 1990s, a dedicated librarian has cared for the collection and its quiet reading rooms. Prince Philip numbered among the club’s notable patrons, while its kitchen, cocktail bar and smoking room preserve details of a distinctly traditional London interior.
