Rimpacher Moos - Weites Ried

Rimpacher Moos - Weites Ried is a nature reserve in Germany, divided between Leutkirch im Allgäu and Isny. Lowland moors and grasslands form its wetland core. Open reed beds, sedge stands, and slow-moving water create further habitats. Purple moor-grass grows across parts of the grassland. These habitats support varied plants and animals, including rare birds and threatened species. Amphibians, insects, and mammals also use these habitats throughout the reserve. Several bird species use Rimpacher Moos - Weites Ried as a breeding ground within the regional wetland network. The wetlands store and filter water through natural processes. This function helps protect the Laubener Brunnen drinking-water catchment area. The reserve forms part of a wider network of wetlands. Walking paths and cycling routes pass beside or through the reserve, giving access to the Allgäu landscape. Most of the land remains natural or semi-natural. Limited human intervention helps preserve the habitats’ ecological character and supports biodiversity across the surrounding region.
