Legacy Ottoman Hotel

Legacy Ottoman Hotel stands in central Istanbul’s Sirkeci district as an example of First Turkish National architecture. Its earlier name was Istanbul 4th Vakıf Han. Architect Kemaleddin Bey designed the building, whose Ottoman Revivalism combines a steel skeleton with cut stone and marble. The former office building served Sirkeci’s growing demand for workspace. During the Allied occupation, French troops used the unfinished structure as barracks and called it Caserne Victor. Later, the Istanbul Stock Exchange occupied the building. The hotel preserves that layered history through its facade, atrium, and U-shaped passage between turrets. Its interior still retains the building’s historical character. The hotel’s conversion brought modern comforts into a structure first planned for office space in Sirkeci. Legacy Ottoman Hotel connects hospitality with Istanbul’s architectural history. Inside, the atrium and U-shaped passage organize the building around preserved architectural features. The turrets frame the passage’s historic design.
