Çavuşzade Ahmet Efendi Çeşmesi
Çavuşzade Ahmet Efendi Çeşmesi is an Ottoman-era fountain in Istanbul’s Fatih district. You find it in the Sümbül Efendi neighbourhood, set into the wall of Ramazan Efendi Mosque beside Kocamustafapaşa Square.
Ahmet Efendi commissioned the fountain, but its historical inscription has disappeared. A single spout, known as a bardaklık, once let passers-by fill their cups, while the structure served everyday Ottoman life. Water no longer flows, and the basin now sits below road level, showing how the surrounding street has changed.
The worn stone still preserves a practical detail of Ottoman architecture: one outlet designed for shared public use.
