Naturtheater Heidenheim
Naturtheater Heidenheim is an open-air theatre in Heidenheim an der Brenz, directly beside Schloss Hellenstein. You find performances by amateur actors for children and adults in a setting shaped by the castle and open sky.
Gustav Müller founded the Volkskunstvereinigung Heidenheim in 1919 after imagining a theatre association during the First World War. Wilhelm Tell opened the venue in 1924, and productions later ranged from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet to the musical Anatevka. A modern audience hall built in 1995 holds more than 1,000 spectators, while musical evenings and poetry slams add other forms of performance.
The theatre remained active each year except during the Second World War, and audiences arrive from across Germany. More than 40,000 visitors attend annually, giving the stage a reach far beyond Heidenheim.
