Michaelskirche

Michaelskirche stands in Schnaitheim, a district of Heidenheim an der Brenz in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The church is a registered cultural monument in Baden-Württemberg.

Builders created the hall church around 1470 to 1480, and later generations changed its nave and eastern tower. Workers raised the tower with an octagonal story in 1774. In 1890, an eight-sided spire covered the raised tower, establishing its distinctive upper outline. The church’s nave has a plain flat ceiling.

Renovations from 1965 to 1967 uncovered 35 early Baroque panels beneath whitewash, mostly painted by Gottfried Enßlin. Twenty-seven recovered panels decorate the church galleries. An organ by Giengen maker Gebr. Link was installed in 1911 inside an existing gallery case. The choir holds an oil painting of the Adoration of Jesus by the Three Wise Men.

Above the entrance, a sundial came from the former upper city gate. The adjacent evangelical parsonage dates from 1771. Exposed half-timbering, the Oberamtei gable, and Schloss Hellenstein’s north portal shape Heidenheim’s Painter’s Corner. The setting includes the half-timbered parsonage and steep Oberamtei gable.
