Dreifaltigkeitskirche
Dreifaltigkeitskirche stands in Weststadt, Heidenheim an der Brenz, with concrete and glass following the hillside. Architect Hermann Mayer created the Catholic church around 1960. Its design belongs to Stuttgart School architecture and suggests a city on a hill. In 1999, the church became a protected historic monument.
Inside, a dynamic stone mosaic above the altar presents Revelation’s vision of Jerusalem descending as the Holy City. Roland Peter Litzenburger shows the city wall’s outline and twelve gates. Twelve lamps surround the mosaic, marking the gates with a clear visual rhythm. Helmut Knoll made the altar, tabernacle, and candlesticks for the sanctuary.
The lamb at the altar’s centre represents divine life, with streams of water flowing outward. Two trees of life stand beside it. Five bells consecrated in 1963 join the bells of other Heidenheim churches in a shared harmony.
