Brünneleswiesen

Brünneleswiesen is a nature reserve in Baden-Württemberg, extending across Heidenheim an der Brenz and Königsbronn. It lies in the Brenz valley between Itzelberg and Aufhausen.

Wet permanent grassland covers mainly organic soils, with waterlogged areas and patches of moor soil. The Brenz shapes the reserve through bends, old channels, and small water ditches.

Reeds and trees line these waterways, creating visible landscape features and habitats for plants and animals. Water plants grow along the banks and channels.

These communities support microorganisms, invertebrates, and endangered fish seeking cover, spawning places, or resting areas. Water-dependent birds use the Brenz valley as a resting and roosting area during autumn and winter.

The reserve lies within the Swabian Alb’s Albuch and Härtsfeld region. It borders the landscape conservation area Brenztalaue near Brünneleskopf and nearby European conservation areas.

The reserve limits recreational activity on its waters and valley grassland, while access follows public paths and agricultural use. Natural river development remains central to the Brünneleswiesen reserve.
