Heilig-Kreuz-Kapelle
Heilig-Kreuz-Kapelle stands in Halbertshofen, a village within the municipality of Neuburg an der Kammel in Bavaria. The chapel presents a historic exterior and a richly decorated interior shaped by several periods.
Built in the fifteenth century, it received extensive renovation around 1620, which established much of its present form. Frescoes and Neorococo decorative paintings bring vivid colour to the interior. In the choir, Saint Helena appears in a depiction of the Elevation of the Cross. Rounded arches and sturdy forms define the Neoromanesque altar, created around 1865.
That altar adds a later architectural layer beneath the older chapel and its painted surfaces. Together, the medieval foundation, seventeenth-century renovation and nineteenth-century furnishings make the small building a compact record of changing styles.
