Foteviksområdets naturreservat

Foteviksområdets naturreservat preserves broad coastal meadows shaped by grazing, seasonal flooding and human care. The horizon stays low, open and free of trees.

Salt-tolerant plants, reedbeds and pink thrift mark the grass, while yellow meadow ants build living tussocks. Those tussocks rise like small islands above the meadow.

In spring, waders and ducks use the shallow bay as an internationally important stopover during migration. Birds feed where worms and mussels lie beneath the sand.

Below the surface, eelgrass meadows provide a nursery for juvenile flatfish and plaice in the bay. Green toads also join the spring chorus beside the reeds.

Unmarked paths cross the reserve from north to south, while the coastal long-distance trail passes just beyond it. Eskilstorps ängar includes a parking area and hearth.

Seasonal closures protect nesting birds and breeding amphibians, and motorised or disruptive water sports remain prohibited inside the reserve. These rules keep the shore quiet for wildlife.
