Zollturm
Zollturm stands on Höchster Schlossplatz in Frankfurt, at the heart of Höchst’s old town. Baroque half-timbered houses, restaurants, flowers, and market activity surround the historic customs tower. The adjoining Zollgärtchen offers a quiet garden setting beside the old fortifications.
The tower dates from around 1360, when it formed the southern gate of Höchst’s city fortifications. A later baroque half-timbered house added a distinctive archway and balustrade gallery on the town side. Slate-covered timber framing rises above the entrance, showing how the structure changed across the centuries.
Since 1899, the building has housed the archives of the Höchster Geschichtsverein. During the Second World War, it temporarily served as a military hospital before its collections moved several times after the war. The Zollgärtchen remains a memorable detail, restored beside a medieval tower and the lively Schlossplatz.
