Schiller-Denkmal

The Schiller-Denkmal stands in Frankfurt’s Taunusanlage as a bronze monument to the poet Friedrich Schiller. Sculptor Johannes Dielmann created the figure for Frankfurt. Green paths and wheelchair access make the setting easy to approach. The surrounding trees give the monument a calm place within the city.

The monument began at Paradeplatz, later called Schillerplatz, before several moves brought it here. Taunusanlage now frames it with green space. Schiller appears in culottes, a vest, and a light coat, with a laurel wreath on his head. His left hand holds a book, while his right hand grips a quill. The statue rises about four metres above a syenite pedestal of similar height.

Schiller lived briefly in Frankfurt, where Kabale und Liebe received its premiere. That connection links the monument to the city’s literary and theatrical history. Nearby monuments honour other poets and show different approaches to representing writers. The lasting image is Schiller standing above the park, dressed as a writer with book, quill, and laurel.
