Kriegerdenkmal Frankfurt Rohmerplatz

Kriegerdenkmal Frankfurt Rohmerplatz stands in Frankfurt am Main, in a green area south of Leipziger Straße. The monument commemorates soldiers from the western Bockenheim district who died in the First World War. Sculptor Oskar Ufert created the monument in 1925 for the Bockenheim Warrior Association. Its sculpture shows a kneeling warrior supporting a shield on the ground with his left hand.

Commemorative inscriptions cover the pedestal’s front and back. They honour the fallen and record the association’s role in erecting the memorial. Founded in 1875, the Bockenheim Warrior Association first commemorated local men killed during the Franco-Prussian War. The association later joined the Kyffhäuserbund, a major veterans’ organisation in the German Empire. Oskar Ufert belonged to the Frankfurt Artists’ Society when he received the commission. The city of Frankfurt am Main marks Volkstrauertag at the memorial with a wreath. Its setting connects Bockenheim’s local history with Frankfurt’s public remembrance of war.
