Haus Frauenstein
Haus Frauenstein stands in Frankfurt am Main as the fourth building in the Römerzeile, between Haus Löwenstein and Salzhaus. It forms part of the Römer complex, Frankfurt’s town hall, beside Römerberg.
In 1423, the guild Stubengesellschaft Zur güldenen Schmiede used the house for meetings and became Zum Frauenstein. The guild bought it in 1444 and rebuilt it in late Gothic style in 1484. The guild left in 1694, while a late Gothic cellar and Baroque stone ground floor survived later destruction.
A bombing raid in March 1944 destroyed the building and neighbouring Salzhaus completely. Reconstruction in 1952 and 1953 followed 1950s architecture, retaining the original outer silhouette. Shared reinforced concrete connects both buildings, with their gables aligned.
