Große Liegende
Große Liegende is a stone sculpture in Frankfurt am Main’s Fressgass pedestrian zone. It shows a prone nude woman beneath plane trees. Shops, cafés, and restaurants line Große Bockenheimer Straße between Opernplatz and Börsenstraße. Wheelchair access makes the artwork reachable within this busy central setting.
Willi Schmidt created the sculpture in 2006, placing a substantial human form within Frankfurt’s commercial heart. The stone surface anchors the figure in the urban landscape. Fressgass leads past the Alte Oper near Opernplatz toward Rathenau and Goethe Platz by Börsenstraße. Locals sometimes call the sculpture “Fett Gret,” recalling its robust form.
