Der Sämann
Der Sämann stands in Frankfurt’s Günthersburgpark as a bronze statue by Belgian artist Constantin Meunier. Belgian artist Constantin Meunier created the sculpture in 1890.
It shows a barefoot field worker holding a seed bag in his left hand and sowing with his right. The figure connects physical labour with agriculture through a clear, carefully observed gesture.
Frankfurt installed this bronze work in Günthersburgpark in 1915, where the statue forms part of the park’s cultural setting. The Frankfurt industrialist Leo Gans donated the statue.
Copies stand in Berlin, Brussels, and Copenhagen, placing this Frankfurt sculpture within a wider European context. The statue stands in Frankfurt’s Nordend district, within Günthersburgpark.
The park contains broad lawns and playgrounds, and its history includes transforming a private estate into public grounds. This art spot is wheelchair accessible for visitors.
