Alt-Limpurg / Laderam
Alt-Limpurg / Laderam stands on the west side of Römerberg, within Frankfurt’s historic Römer complex and beside its stepped-gable town hall. The property began as lodging for wool weavers from Limburg an der Lahn during trade fairs.
In 1495, the Alten Limpurg society acquired the house and made it their meeting place. This patrician association grew from a medieval drinking society and included families such as Holzhausen, Glauburg, and Stalburg. Its members influenced Frankfurt’s governance for centuries, until the city lost its status as a free imperial city in 1806.
The society’s influence faded, and Frankfurt acquired the building in 1878 for integration into the Römer complex. The Römer has served as Frankfurt’s town hall since the early fifteenth century, linking medieval commerce with civic life.
