Ständehaus
Ständehaus stands in Düsseldorf as an architectural landmark, combining parliamentary history with a museum devoted to contemporary art. Its construction between 1876 and 1880 gave the building its historic form. The Rhine Province first used it as a parliament, and North Rhine-Westphalia continued that role until 1988.
The building hosted 864 plenary sessions during its political life. Severe wartime damage preceded reconstruction and a reopening in 1949. In 2002, K21 transformed the former government building into a branch of Kunstsammlung NRW, with contemporary works beneath an impressive glass dome.
Ständehauspark extends around the museum with broad water features and quiet green space. Maximilian Weyhe designed the grounds as former fortifications became public landscapes. Kaiserteich and Schwanenspiegel give the park its clearest visual details.
