Römischer Kaiser

Römischer Kaiser stands in central Düsseldorf as a four-storey corner building with stone façades. Josef Kleesattel completed the building in 1904.

Several bay windows, balconies, gables, and turrets give the corner an ornate outline. Late Gothic tracery appears across its parapets, balconies, and windows. Bulbous domes crown the corner tower, while voluted gables connect the design with Heimatstil. FW Zensen commissioned the former hotel, whose beer and wine bars received interiors by Hermann vom Endt. Electric lights, an elevator, and central heating marked its early modern amenities. World War II damaged the structure, and rebuilding in the 1950s simplified much of its appearance. Workers reconstructed the gables and turret in 1982 and 1983. Since 2015, a bank has occupied the ground floor, while offices fill the upper floors. Small dormers between the restored features remain skylights.
