Caritas Altenzentrum St. Hubertusstift
Caritas Altenzentrum St. Hubertusstift stands in Düsseldorf as a Catholic care home operated by Caritas. Its Baroque main building dates from 1709 to 1712. Jacob Dubois designed the multi-winged residence for Joseph Jacob van Geldern, incorporating a synagogue and school.
In 1772, the Hubertus Order acquired the building. By the late eighteenth century, the former residence housed Hubertus Hospital, whose history reaches before the fourteenth century. Political change brought financial difficulties and reduced patient care. In the nineteenth century, the site became a home for older people, with Sisters of the Order of Christ caring for residents.
Twentieth-century expansion and renovations from 1987 to 1991 shaped the present facility. Residents find a chapel, restaurant, garden, activities, services, and a wellness bath. Historic-monument status marks its architectural and cultural significance in Düsseldorf.
