Atelierhaus Pfau
Atelierhaus Pfau stands in Düsseldorf as a heritage-listed architectural landmark from the middle of the twentieth century. Bernhard Pfau designed the five-storey building in Düsseldorf. Steel and concrete support a structure almost entirely enclosed by a glass facade divided into six sections. The entrance sits on the building’s left side.
Construction took place between 1956 and 1958, giving Düsseldorf a clear example of modernist building practice. Light, air and openness shape its architectural character. On the street-facing fourth floor, a stepped level uses round windows to bring daylight inside. Six glass sections continue across the rear. At the top, the rear floor aligns with the facade, while a tiled gabled roof replaces the planned flat roof.
The glass facade creates a maison de verre en miniature, expressing transparency and visual lightness. Round windows punctuate the stepped fourth floor above the street.
