Barrio del Foro Romano (Molinete)

Barrio del Foro Romano (Molinete) presents an archaeological district and museum complex in Cartagena, centred on Roman Carthago Nova. Roman roads connect the forum, curia, and bathing spaces.

The site preserves the colonia forum, the Atrium Building, the Port Baths, and several urban streets. Isis and Serapis have a dedicated sanctuary here. Its preserved temenos records religious practices and the place of isiac cults in Carthago Nova. The Atrium Building retains wall paintings. The Port Baths show how bathing and social life occupied Cartagena’s Roman waterfront.

Museum galleries trace Molinete Hill from Qart Hadast through Carthago Nova and Carthago Spartaria. A lapidarium displays stone inscriptions and architectural fragments. The Edificio del Mosaico includes a crypt, while decumanus one and cardo one mark the Roman layout. Cardo two runs through Insula four.

Exhibits include mosaics, wall paintings, and everyday objects from excavations, connecting buildings with daily life. The complex follows Molinete Hill through late antiquity. Conservation and museum displays explain how original remains and reconstructed elements preserve this layered urban history. The site brings political, religious, and social spaces together within Cartagena’s archaeological heritage.
