Masjid Boorhaanol Islam

Masjid Boorhaanol Islam is a Sunni mosque in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa, with architectural significance. The mosque serves the local Bo-Kaap community as a religious centre.

Its design combines traditional Islamic elements with local influences and includes a distinctive minaret. The minaret was originally built from wood. Concrete replaced the wooden minaret during the nineteen thirties, changing a visible feature of the mosque’s architecture. The site became a national monument in nineteen seventy.

Established in the early twentieth century, the mosque first carried the name Pilgrim Mosque before its renaming. Its present name dates from the year nineteen forty. Separate prayer spaces for women, wash areas, and nearby street parking form part of the recorded facilities. The mosque belongs to a community movement. The Boorhaanol Islam Movement combines religious education with socio-economic upliftment programmes for the local Muslim community.
