Szent István-bazilika kincstára
Szent István-bazilika kincstára occupies part of Saint Stephen’s Basilica, where sacred art, architectural history and living worship meet. You move from models, papal documents and Murillo’s Holy Family to Csaba Ozsvári’s bronze gate and a glittering porcelain Holy Crown.
Two inner rooms deepen the visit: one presents a symbolic relic chapel, while the other occupies a quiet tower space. Silver and gold chalices, sacred garments, pastoral staffs and the country’s largest monstrance from 1938 show more than two centuries of religious art. A chalice gifted by Pope John Paul II in 1991 and the largest collection of Cardinal Mindszenty’s personal liturgical objects add stories of faith and ceremony.
The silver vigil lamp keeps an eternal flame among these treasures, while several objects still serve during religious celebrations. That continuing use brings the past into the present, giving each chalice, garment and staff a purpose beyond display.
