Szent Gellért Gyógyfürdő és Uszoda brings thermal water, art nouveau architecture, and Hungarian bathing history together. Its façade features wrought iron, stained glass, and mosaics. Inside, a maze of pools presents different temperatures and mineral contents beneath soaring colonnades and coloured windows. The main hall gives the bathing rooms a strong architectural presence. Springs beneath the site attracted the Knights of Saint John in the twelfth century, followed later by the Ottomans. The water has served bathers for centuries. The bathhouse carries that older spring tradition into a modern architectural setting filled with tiles and ornament. Its outdoor pool slopes gently toward the water. That pool once held the world’s first artificial wave machine, while families and friends gathered around it. Massages and saunas complete the classic spa setting beside the river and hillside. The coloured glass and curling railings remain visible alongside pools, saunas, massages, and the outdoor bathing area. Natural light moves across the decorated mosaics.
