Aquincumi Múzeum

The Aquincum Museum opens onto the remains of Aquincum, a Roman settlement shaped by earlier Celtic life. Ancient stone-paved roads cross the open-air archaeological site. You can see houses, workshops, public baths, temples, forums and an amphitheatre among the excavated remains. Mosaics, tools and delicate objects reveal everyday Roman work and family life. The Celtic Eravisci settled here, drawn by hot springs and the flowing Danube. Roman forces later made Aquincum a military stronghold. Exhibitions connect the legion camp and civilian town with soldiers, merchants, families and children who lived here. Reconstructed rooms make ancient spaces easier to understand. Guided tours explore the military city, while special events present Roman traditions, crafts and festivals. Temporary exhibitions examine Sarmatian neighbours and Roman soldiers along the limes, the Roman border. Educational clubs and tactile experiences extend the museum’s history to different ages and visitors with visual impairments. Each path keeps ancient Aquincum visible beneath the present-day landscape.
