Palau Requesens

Palau Requesens is a medieval palace in Barcelona, built during the thirteenth century for the Requesens family.

Its foundations follow Barcelona’s old Roman wall.

The building expanded during the fifteenth century and later became known as Palau de la Comtessa de Palamós.

Its central courtyard brings the palace’s architectural layers into view.

A slender tower rises from the courtyard, incorporating part of the Roman wall and later Gothic additions.

Gothic windows overlook the courtyard from the upper loggia.

Its rooms include the Tinellet, academy offices, a session hall, and an events room, while a northern courtyard contains trees and a pond.

The Tinellet echoes the Saló del Tinell in form.

Later restoration introduced battlements, Gothic details, and a loggia with prismatic columns beneath a wooden overhanging roof.

The Reial Acadèmia and Galeria de Catalans Il·lustres occupy the palace.
