Figura femenina
Figura femenina is a public sculpture in Barcelona, set among the gardens and exterior spaces of Palau de Pedralbes. Enric Casanovas i Roy created the female figure around 1926. Montjuïc stone connects the work with a local material used throughout Barcelona’s historic buildings and monuments.
Noucentisme shaped its simplified form, calm balance, and return to classical traditions. Palau de Pedralbes developed between 1911 and 1929, during the movement’s prominence in Catalonia. The surrounding gardens contain works by Josep Llimona, Joan Borrell Nicolau, and Eusebi Arnau. Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí designed the gardens, while Carles Buïgas created the fountains. Nature, architecture, and public art share the same setting here.
The sculpture belongs to Barcelona’s public art collection and holds local-interest cultural protection. Heritage catalogues preserve its place among the city’s outdoor works.
