Canòdrom. Ateneu d'Innovació Digital i Democràtica

Canòdrom. Ateneu d'Innovació Digital i Democràtica stands in Barcelona as a Modern Movement building beside a neighbourhood park. Antoni Bonet and Josep Puig designed its two paraboloid floors, exposed steel pillars, and cantilevered stands. Raw metal, washed concrete, white stucco, and brown and amber glazed ceramics give the interiors their distinctive material character.

The building opened in 1964 as a greyhound racing track, with the upper floor overlooking the oval course. Racing ended in 2006, and the former sports venue later became a centre for digital innovation, democracy, and community life. Workshops, exhibitions, film screenings, conferences, and courses explore digital rights, free technologies, digital culture, and technology’s ecological impact. Research groups, activists, neighbours, and resident projects also share decisions through an open governance model.

Every afternoon, the stands welcome people who meet there and use free Wi-Fi and power outlets on the terraces.

Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Barcelona. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.

What is myTuur?
