# St. Nikolaus

St. Nikolaus is a Catholic parish church in Germany, built from locally produced red brick in the neo-Gothic style. Its tower rises about eighty-six metres, making it the tallest church tower in the Bavarian Forest and Diocese of Passau. Johann Baptist Schott of Munich designed the church between 1892 and 1896 within a complex including a convent and children’s home. The church received its consecration in the year 1898. Pointed windows and deep-set entrance doors shape the exterior, while the brickwork records careful local craftsmanship.

Inside, painted windows bring colour to the otherwise simple interior. The windows came from royal art workshops, and regional and Munich craftsmen created the woodcarving and oil paintings. A clay and ceramic altar stands at the liturgical centre. Horst Fochler created the modern altar and ambo from clay and ceramic. A life-size statue of the bound Saviour dates from 1730. The interior also contains a Pietà from about 1550 and wooden Stations of the Cross from the late nineteenth century. The Eisenbarth organ accompanies concerts in this historic church. The building also hosts services and community gatherings.
