Monte Diggelmann is a viewpoint in Zurich’s Oberstrass district, rising above Irchelpark as its highest point. The hill was built from university excavation material. That material came from construction of the University of Zurich’s Irchel campus during the 1970s. A group of trees and benches marks the summit. From this elevated spot, you can see Zurich, the Limmat Valley, the airport, and the distant Lägern ridge. The northwest slope welcomes family sledders in winter. People also use the hill for walking, jogging, picnics, and quiet pauses among the city’s green spaces. Cyclists must walk their bicycles across the hill.

The name honours Walter Diggelmann, a former president of the Oberstrass neighbourhood association and a local civic figure. His name still survives across this Zurich park. Monte Diggelmann shows how university construction shaped a public landscape beside the Irchel campus. The hill remains a distinct part of Irchelpark. Its benches, trees, and broad outlook give this artificial rise a clear place within Zurich’s network of green spaces. The site connects city views with local history.
