# St. Michael

St. Michael is a late-Gothic village church in Germany, with a compact body and a squat tower. The lowest masonry reaches back to the early fifteenth century. Two square turrets carry weather vanes with Fugger lilies, while the summit takes a horn-like shape.

The tower may have served as a watchtower before becoming the church bell tower. Three bells span different centuries, with the middle bell cast in 1419, the large bell in 1520, and the small bell in 1663. The church was lengthened in 1512, then Franz Martin Kuen reshaped its interior in the Rococo manner around the mid-eighteenth century. Around 1880, the Nazarene style altered the interior again. Saint Michael appears three times as a sword-bearing fighter against the serpent, recalling local knights who chose him as protector.

A late-Gothic Madonna stands in a niche along the north wall beside old Stations of the Cross. A 1953 ceiling painting above the altar shows Pope Pius XII and Saint Anthony Mary Claret. The present organ dates from 1995, while a folk nativity set from the 1930s still returns to the village each year.
