Naschmarkt stretches for about one and a half kilometres along Vienna’s Wienzeile, with its pavilions built over the Wien River. More than 120 market stands and restaurants bring together fresh produce, exotic herbs, cheeses, breads, meats and seafood.

The market’s history reaches back to the sixteenth century, while its current location dates from the late eighteenth century. The first pavilions appeared in 1902, and fruits and vegetables arriving by cart had to be sold here from 1793. Today, sushi, kebab, Viennese dishes, Indian, Vietnamese and Italian cuisine share the same lively stretch, with clothing and accessories among the food stalls.

Every Saturday, the market extends along the Wienzeile for a colourful flea market. Kaiserschmarrn, Palatschinken, seafood and outdoor people-watching give the place its lasting flavour.
