Chiesa dei Santi Apostoli is a Roman Catholic church in Verona, where stone and brick Romanesque walls surround a long religious history. A Christian building already stood here in the fifth century, while the present church was consecrated in 751. After an earthquake in the early thirteenth century, builders reconstructed the church in Romanesque style. Its tall bell tower still rises above the piazza, with six bells cast in the early nineteenth century.

The church once had three naves, but sixteenth-century changes created the single nave visible today. Through the sacristy, you reach the partly underground chapel of Sante Teuteria e Tosca, built above a Roman cemetery in the fifth century. Its floor lies about two metres below the church, matching the Roman street level, while a marble ark with fifteenth-century reliefs stands above the Baroque altar. Bevilacqua tombs include Francesco’s 1368 monument and a sixteenth-century white marble ark for three brothers.

Inside, Alessandro Turchi’s seventeenth-century Saint Augustine faces Felice Brusasorci’s Adoration of the Magi and Simone Brentana’s Pentecost. A fourteenth-century processional cross, Giolfino’s fresco of Christ with Saint Roch, and three fifteenth-century tombs set into the north wall add further detail. Look upward at the façade for two medieval corbels that once supported a Romanesque porch.
