Casa di Tintoretto stands in Venice as the former home of Jacopo Tintoretto, born Jacopo Robusti. The house links architecture with the painter’s Venetian life.

Tintoretto lived here with his family while developing energetic brushwork, dramatic movement, and bold perspective. His father Battista worked as a cloth dyer in Venice. That family trade gave Jacopo the name Tintoretto, meaning little dyer or dyer’s boy. The artist also used the name Il Furioso.

His household included Faustina de Vescovi, and children such as Marietta, Domenico, and Marco later became artists themselves. Tintoretto kept his painting methods closely guarded. His paintings included religious scenes, portraits, and mythological stories with powerful figures and theatrical perspectives. Paradise fills the Doge’s Palace with monumental scale.
