Pieve di San Piero in Campo stands in Veneri, in Italy’s Pescia area, between the Pescia di Collodi and Pescia di Pescia streams. Its grey sandstone façade presents a marble portal, small arcades, and a central double-arched window. Inside, arches on columns divide the basilica plan into three naves and a single apse. A bell tower beside it may predate the twelfth-century structure, although its bell chamber was later altered.

Historical records first mention the site in 846, then in 913, when its location gave it the name “in campo”. It began as a baptistery overseeing Vivinaia, Veneri, and Collodi. The present building replaced an eighth- or ninth-century predecessor, whose river-stone foundations emerged during excavations in 2006. Troops led by Uguccione della Faggiola destroyed the village that grew around it. The building later lost its religious role, served secular purposes, returned to the parish, and underwent restoration.

Look closely at the façade: carved heads support the arches, while a winged animal marks the last arch of the first row. Inside, capitals combine foliage with sharply geometric animal figures. The site also stood beside the Roman Cassia Minor, a route across the Nievole valley. The Capponi family built a residence beside it, where Princess Violante of Bavaria stayed in 1720.
