Il-Monument ta' Sir Alexander Ball stands among the greenery of the Lower Barrakka Gardens in Malta. Its compact neoclassical form recalls a Greek temple above the Grand Harbour.

Built in 1810, the structure commemorates Sir Alexander Ball, Britain’s admiral and Malta’s first Civil Commissioner. Local people funded it after his death. Architect Giorgio Pullicino shaped the naos with a Doric portico of four columns, inspired by Athens’ Temple of Hephaestus. Four niches hold allegorical statues by Vincenzo Dimech. They represent war, prudence, justice and immortality.

Latin and English inscriptions record its public funding and later restoration. The elevated setting connects Ball’s naval legacy with the harbour below, while the surrounding gardens provide a quiet place for reflection. Wheelchair access makes the site easier to reach.
