Palau del Rei Sanç gathers compact stone buildings around a square tower, forming the original core of a charterhouse. Its rough-hewn façades enclose royal and monastic spaces.

Jaume the Second commissioned this residence for his third son, Sanç, who later became king. The palace later became a Carthusian monastery. The monks expanded the complex, added a church, and arranged rooms around the requirements of cloistered life. Monastic silence shaped the daily rhythm here.

Inside, patterned dining-room tiles and a richly carved wooden ceiling preserve details associated with Moorish craftsmanship. Visitors see worn patterned tiles beneath their feet. The dining hall, ballroom, choir, and music room reveal changes from royal residence to religious community. Chopin’s name remains connected with the music room.

Later division left the estate with mixed ownership, while the church passed to diocesan authority. The old hall connects carved beams with the worn surfaces of a building shaped by successive uses. Its stone, wood, and tiles remain visible throughout the rooms.
